It's practically the end of 2012... I can't believe how time flies when you're not really paying attention. *__*;

2012 has been a year full of discoveries -- mostly not so good, but I think I can safely say they were all things I could grow from. Moving into my 7th year of nemu*nemu, I feel I've made a lot of progress since 2006. On the other hand, there are endless things I feel I can improve on -- and not only "artistic" pursuits, but business ones as well.

There are number of things I have yet to try and since I will not be releasing volume 7 in spring (as a normally do) nor traveling out-of-state for events, it will hopefully clear up a lot of time for me to try and jump on those back-burner ideas.

I will remain optimistic, and keep working at what I do and maybe, just maybe -- try some things new.

Happy Holidays, folks~! :D
It doesn't quite feel like it yet, but fall is coming and it's my favorite time of year. :3

Not only is my birthday coming up, but my anniversary, Ani's birthday, and a whole slew of events to take us straight thru to the New Year! So much stuff to think about and get ready for! ^^

Reflecting on another year gone by, it's amazing how time just flies. I remember in elementary school thinking I'd be in school FOREVER... and here I am, working on a comic for what is my 7th year.

Meanwhile, looks like my subscription has run out again. Funds are quite tight this year, so I may have to pass up on renewing until a later date. ♥ I'll just make do and find some way to "earn" that subscription fund in my budget again. ^^

Anyhoo~ Happy Halloween!

[CLOSED] Contest: Win a Pair of Pups!

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 29, 2012, 4:00 PM

Introducing our 2012 nemu*pups!

This year, we have not only one or two pups, but four. (Yes, 4.) Niko*Niko Anpan & Nemu (limited edtiion!), the 2nd generation Enchilada, and all-new Blue pup (from our Honolulu Star Advertiser comic, Blue Hawaii.)

While we are waiting for them to arrive, I am hosting a contest!

Simply put - create your own nemu*pup using our templates:

(Scroll down for the links to the full-sized templates!)

If you want some ideas to get started, here's my event "cheat sheet".

There will be two (2) sets of prizes. One will be the Judge's Choice from all entries. The second, the Popular Vote, will voted on by readers from ten (10) finalists. Each winner will receive their choice of two (2) plush pups, shipped anywhere in the world!

We will be judging entries based on creativity, not artistic ability.

How to enter:
1. Download the template you'd like to use. We have them available in JPG or TIFF formats. You can use either the one with eyes or without.

2. Email your drawing (digital file, photographed or scanned versions are OK) to
pups @ nemu-nemu.com.

3. Please include the following with your entry:
+ The image files (jpg, gif, png preferred.)
+ Your name (or name you would like to be referred as)
+ The name of your pup(s)
+ Any additional notes about your character design you would to mention (including a backstory, personality, likes/dislikes, goals, etc...)

4. Deadline for submission is September 8th at noon Hawaii Time (HST).
The public voting for the Popular Vote prize will take place the following week.

Contest Rules / Requirements:

This contest is open to nemu*nemu readers of all-ages! All we ask is that you follow the rules below.

1. No copyrighted characters may be used.

2. You must keep the basic shape of the pup as part of your character design. (i.e. - do not remove the ears and draw your own.) However, you may add on to the template however you like and design your own coloring and markings (i.e. spots, tattoos, freckles, clothing, accessories, etc.)

3. No more than two (2) entries per person.

I look forward to seeing some of your entries! ^_^ ♥

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 20, 2012, 2:42 PM

How was your weekend?

We had a slightly longer weekend, thanks to Statehood Day on Friday. (Yeah, we have a lot of holidays in Hawaii... ♥)

On Sunday, I was asked to participate in a Family Sunday event at the Honolulu Museum of Art (formerly, the Honolulu Academy of Art) for "Manga Madness". I had prepared a couple worksheets for kids to create their very own pup characters. (If you missed it and wanted to give it a try, you can download the zipped file here: cl.ly/0N0d1R3a2J30)

It was a lot of fun! Doors opened at 11am and we were busy all the way to 3pm. I didn't even have much of a chance to sit and eat my sandwich. D:

Here's a collage of a few of the shots I took earlier in the day:

Anyhoo~ that was my only event this month. I'm prepping for our next event at the McCully Library on Saturday, September 22nd -- MiniCon. ^_^v

(More on that as we get closer to the event.)

In the meanwhile -- I hope everyone's excited for the new school year. ^^ I kinda miss those first few weeks of school when everything is new!

Happy 12th birthday DA! It's hard to believe you've been around this long! :D

Just testing out some of the recently updated skins. It's been a while since I tried them out. Couldn't resist updating with this one. It's just too cute. XD

In the meanwhile, I've been working on more watercolors. It's a relatively fun medium to experiment with -- can be somewhat unpredictable. I have a ton of paper I've stock-piled over the years, but never got around to using... so now's the perfect time to start cranking some drawings out. :D

Here's one I'm working on:

Summer Cleaning

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 1, 2012, 3:48 PM

Now that all of our major events are out of the way, I can finally get back to re-organizing my life back in the studio.

First off - spent the past weekend cleaning the bathroom (due to ant infestation, near our shower of all places) and the "shipping station" where we store all our event supplies and some of our inventory.

Yays! I spent the following Monday cleaning up my immediate desk area... followed by whopper of a migraine. D:

I've also been drawing more and more non-nemu-related stuff, like so:

You can catch more of my stuff on Instagram, if you use it -- my user name there is kitsy (which is different from my twitter name: kyubikitsy). I post a lot of in-progress photos there, as well as random stuff from my daily life... like food. ♥

So you'll see some of the finished drawings/paintings up here over the following weeks. :D

I've also completed a new desktop set -- the first since March/April, I believe? -- just in time for the obon season:

That's about it for now~ Been catching up on anime on crunchyroll and currently enjoying Sword Art Online. Any other series I should be watching? XD

Brief Post-Con Report~

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 17, 2012, 9:55 AM

We are back from SDCC and mostly re-charged!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hello, introduce themselves, or pick up a few nicknacks from our table. :D Thankfully, we sold enough stuff to return home with all the suitcases/duffle bags we brought with us. ^_^

This was probably the first year we actually made the effort to leave the table and do some exploring. It was mad-crazy in the entertainment areas, making traffic in some areas pretty unbearable. I didn't get to find -everyone-, but I did stop by wherever I could. :D (So sorry if I missed you!)

Stuff I did get to see: The new Iron Man costume on stage (and by proxy, Robert Downy Jr. doing his best Tony Stark), Nathan Fillion (firefly) at one of the booths, a crazy ton of booth babes at the Sony booth, Zack Giallongo's preview copy of Broxo (looks amazing), AND got a preview copy of Raina Telgemeier's new "DRAMA" book. :D

I'm sure there was more, but I'm still a bit on the brain-dead side.
:3

This will probably be the last of the California cons for a while~ Till next time!

2 weeks from SDCC. OMG.

Ahoy all!

Scott and I are getting ready and psyching ourselves up for San Diego Comic Con in a couple weeks! We still have a lot of prep stuff to do: printing prints, making jewelry, packing bags, etc...

We will be back in Small Press (right near Webcomics) at table O-14 -- same space as last year~!

We will be hauling most of the usual stuff -- the last of our Nemu pups, Pollo, books, charms, etc!

Quick Update~

Journal Entry: Thu May 31, 2012, 1:13 AM

Fanime has come and gone! Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by and said hello! I really appreciate your support!

I'm still getting settled back home -- the timezone jump was particularly tough this time around. I hope to get back into the swing of things soon! :D

Fanime 2012

Journal Entry: Tue May 22, 2012, 12:38 AM

So a quick update!

Scott and I will be exhibiting this weekend at Fanime! This will be our fifth year and we always look forward to flying into San Jose. (It's one of our less-stressful events away from home. ♥)

We'll be back in the Dealer's Room, Booth #519 (same space as last year) with all the usual goodies and a few new things~ :D

If you'll be exhibiting, let me know what your table number is! I'll try to take some time this year to say hello. ^^

Books are in!

News*Flash!

So! After a handful of mis-steps, Volume 6 is finally in hand!

I apologize if you came to see us at Kawaii Kon and they were unavailable. The short version is, they were on island, off the boat, but stuck in the very back of the very last container of the very last ship to be unloaded that week... and the stevadores (dockworkers) stopped working at 3:30 on Friday. So yeah... no books all weekend. D:

-sigh-

But good news, we picked them up and sorted all the boxes. 95% of the Kawaii Kon orders are shipped and I'm working my way through all the Kickstarter packages. Some of you may have already received your shipping notification. (If not your book by now, if you live in Hawaii~ ^_^)

Hi folks!

nemu*updates

Things have been super busy for me since we closed up the Kickstarter project in late December. The book is completed and off to the printers as I write this and I'm expecting my preview copies sometime in February. (I CANNOT WAIT!)

So aside from the usual everyday business of comics and what-not, we're in full-gear to get things done in time to Kawaii Kon -- which is one month earlier this year. D: I'm hopeful everything will come in time for the show!

nemu*shop

We have a few new updates to the shop:

First up, if you're interested in pre-ordering the book, it's currently up in the nemu*shop. :D They will arrive mid-March and will ship out soon after.

- - - - - -

I also have a short special order going on for Henshin Rider Fan Club T-shirts! These have been long sold out and we've been asked for them a number of times at events. I will not be fully stocking these for the shop -- they'll only be available via this special order (and maybe a few extra to have on-hand at our events. Sizes limited.)

Closes on February 4th!

- - - - - -

Just in time for the new year (and Valentine's day, for that matter...), there is a 10% off sale on all RED items at the nemu*spreadshirt shop!

Use code: RED2012 from now until February 7th!

- - - - - -

Lastly, you might have caught it in the art feed, but I also have a new wallpaper set  celebrating the new year up for grabs!

It's "donation-ware", so I just ask you pay what you feel you feel the wallpaper set is worth.

Up at the nemu*digital shop. :D

nemu*news

If you haven't already, consider signing up for our monthly newsletter! (It's the green box on our nemu*shop front page!)

Aside from the usual "news", you'll get some great promo offers, major site updates, and a monthly illustration. :D

February is coming soon, so now's the time to sign up! :D

- - - - -

This may apply mostly to local Hawaii peeps, but nemu*nemu has been added to the Sunday rotation of local comics! Our contribution features our newest pup, named "Blue".

Catch nemu*nemu: Blue Hawaii once every three weeks in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser! Want to see the first strip? Visit the Star-Advertiser site here!

The next comic is coming up this Sunday! :D

-phew- That was a mouthful!

I hope 2012 is a great year for everyone! Thanks so much for watching my stuff here on deviantArt! :D I hope to be a bit more on the ball this year with updates and stuff! Wish me luck!

Book 6 is FULLY FUNDED! HURRAY!

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 23, 2011, 4:05 PM

Folks! We did it! We are fully funded as of December 23, 2011, 1:45pm HST!

Click on the screencap to head to the Kickstarter project page!

I am currently working on the covers, extra stories, and additional strips and edits for the final. We expect to have everything ready to send to the printers as of January 5th for an arrival for March 13th.

I am SO EXCITED! We will have a wonderful new book in time for our first major event of 2011!

Incentive packages will still be available until the project closes on December 26th, 11:49pm HST, so if you'd still like to participate, think of it like a pre-order. Extra funds collected for the Kickstarter will go directly into nemu*nemu print projects, so hopefully, we can set aside the extra funds for our next book in 2013 or a reprint of our sold our material. :D

Thank you SO MUCH! I am very overwhelmed, excited, and exhausted. This is the best Christmas present EVER!

Help us fund our next book... by X-mas!

EDIT: We've finally broke the $9000 mark! Let's raise that last bit together!! :D

KickStart Our Next Book!

Scott and I are working hard to complete all of our content for our much anticipated Volume 6, but this year, we're going to need some help with the funding.

Up until last year, we printed our yearly compilations in black-and-white and smaller quantities (less than 1000 copies) primarily as a service to our readers who may not be aware we update our comic online.

For our 5th anniversary (last year), we decided to bite the proverbial bullet and go all out. Our 5th volume was larger in both size and page-count than our previous books AND printed in full-color. The printing costs were quite high, but we felt the end result was completely worth it. We've received so many positive compliments from those who see our books in person.

So, in short, it's hard to go back to black-and-white.

Times are Changing...

This past year has been a really rough one. We are based in Honolulu, Hawaii and our base costs are much higher than most of the nation. Fuel prices rose and in turn everything became more expensive -- airfare to mainland events, gas for the car, groceries, shipping and freight, etc.

Additionally, many of our local bookstores and comic shops are shrinking and disappearing and places where I can sell my books to (wholesale) are becoming more and more limited.

Let's Prove them Wrong!

Let's prove that there is still a market for books!

Let me make this clear: My Kickstarter Project is -not- asking for a donation. What I am asking for is assistance in printing our next book in full-color. To do this, we need to raise $10,000 in pledges. We have a number of great incentive packages to choose from, so you are getting something for your support.

Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing funding project. If I do not reach my goal by December 26th, no one will be charged for their pledges, but I will also not have a printed book for 2012.

My deadlines are set and strict - when funding is reached, we will be in touch with our printers to start the process. We already have an estimated date of arrival in mid-March -- just in time for Kawaii Kon 2012.

80% of the book content is complete. I am currently working on a n 18-page special side-story that will only appear in our compiled editions, the "Origins of Pollo". To see some of the other in-progress updates, visit our KickStarter Project page and click the "Updates" tab to learn more.

Incentive Packages

To be honest, we have a -lot- of incentive packages, ranging from $1 to $500. Some include:

* Limited edition, signed & number HARDCOVER edition of the book!
* Learn Nemesis' true name!
* Join the official Henshin Rider Fan Club!
* Get your portrait/original character drawn by me!
* Trading card sets! Stickers! More!

You can make as changes to your pledge until the Kickstarter closes on December 26th.

Likewise, if you have an idea you'd like to see added as an incentive, feel free to message me!

How You Can Help!

Not all of us may have money to make a pledge - I understand that completely. However, if you would like to see this book become a reality, help us our by sharing. Forward or share this journal link, tweet, post on your Facebook wall, make a blog post, e-mail friends, etc! Every little bit helps us out a lot!

Sankies so much for your time and support! :D

  • Mood: Joy
Kickstarter Project - Let's print our next book TOGETHER!

For those who may not follow the nemu*blog or are unfamiliar with what Kickstarter is, this is a little primer:

1) Kickstarter is a site that hosts group-funded projects.

2) I create a project and you can help that project become a reality by making a monetary pledge.

3) Pledges are handled through Amazon Payments. Monies will -not- be collected until AFTER the project is fully funded and AFTER the project deadline.

4) You may make as many changes to your pledge as you like, while the project is still on-going.

5) If the project is not fully funded by the deadline, no one will be charged and the project will be suspended indefinitely.

Here is a link to the Kickstarter Project: www.kickstarter.com/projects/n…

So, here's my project goal:
In short, I'd like your help in printing our next book in full color.

After printing volume 5 in full color for our 5th anniversary, it's hard to go back to black-and-white printing. However, it took a huge chunk out of our budget for 2011. Along with the rising cost of fuel, all of our expenses have gone up dramatically and thusly, we've been able to craft only a small number of new items this past year.

As it has been our tradition for the past 5 years, we work hard to have a wide variety of new merchandise to debut at Kawaii Kon, our first large show of the convention season. This year, Kawaii Kon is in mid-March, one month earlier than usual. We are currently on a tight schedule to get everything done by the beginning of New Year to make sure our books arrive by the show. This Kickstarter project is a big part of that schedule.

If our goal is reached by Christmas, we will immediately contact our printers and give them OK to start production. We already have an expected arrival and pick up date from the docks the week of Kawaii Kon!

So, here's how you can help:

1) PLEDGE. If you would love to see our next book in print, please consider making a pledge! As I mentioned above, your money will not be collected until after the goal is fully funded and after the project closes after Christmas. Every pledge counts, from $1 to $10,000! If we surpass our goal, all excess funds will be held for our next print project!

2) SHARE! Please share this project with your friends and family who may be interested in helping out! Also, please share in your own words! You have more influence and impact than you can imagine!

3) BE CREATIVE! If you'd like to contribute in some other way to this project, maybe you have an special incentive idea you'd like to see happen... or maybe you'd like to donate something on behalf of this project as an incentive package, I'm totally open to ideas! Message me here at facebook or on the kickstarter page, or e-mail us at info@nemu-nemu.com!

With 15 days left to go (as of today) help us make it to the finish line! Not only I thank you, but all nemu*nemu readers alike! :D

Sankies for your time~ <3
